AFHA is currently seeking Graduate Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Field Engineers to join our growing fieldwork team based at the Central office in Seaton, Rutland. This is a fantastic opportunity for motivated graduates to build a career in the geotechnical and geo-environmental sector, working on a diverse range of infrastructure and utilities projects across the UK. You will be responsible for the supervision of site-based activities, reporting to the Fieldwork Manager. Working closely with Engineers and Senior Engineers, you will ensure fieldwork is carried out to the highest standards. You will be expected to work both autonomously and as part of a team, delivering field and office-based works as scheduled, and will play a key role in supporting factual and interpretive report writing as your experience develops.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision of intrusive site works including cable percussive drilling, windowless sampling, rotary drilling, trial pitting and in‑situ testing
  • Completion of project health and safety documentation in the field and office
  • Liaising with clients on site and providing clear, professional communication
  • On‑site project management, ensuring works are delivered on schedule
  • Monitoring and sampling of installed standpipes for ground gas and water level/quality assessment
  • Supervising the installation of new monitoring standpipes
  • Regular travel within the region and throughout the UK as required

Essential Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree (minimum 2:1) in Earth Science, Engineering Geology, Geotechnics or a related discipline
  • Full UK driving licence
  • IT literacy (Microsoft Office packages)
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with both colleagues and clients
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Comfortable working outdoors and delivering under pressure

Desirable

  • 1–2 years’ experience in geotechnical/environmental supervision
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Experience with geotechnical or geo-environmental fieldwork
