About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our experienced team in Northwich, providing rapid professional development and promotion opportunities. The right candidate will be a team player with approximately 5+ years of relevant experience, self‑motivated and eager to develop their skills and knowledge. The role involves delivering geo‑environmental and geotechnical consultancy services to a diverse range of clients, including residential and commercial property developers, agents, planners, engineers, and public bodies. You will manage projects from ground investigations to remediation and design, ensuring quality, safety, and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply relevant standards, guidance and legislative background to the geo‑environmental and geotechnical industry, mentoring junior staff
- Implement and maintain health and safety standards across the business
- Conduct ground investigations and act as Project Manager for various schemes, delegating tasks to junior staff
- Prepare project fee proposals and tenders
- Take responsibility for project finances, invoicing and commercial aspects of business
- Attend meetings, site visits and site work as required
- Manage workload and prioritize tasks to achieve objectives and deadlines
- Develop client relationships and communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Check and approve the work of junior staff, including health and safety documentation, drawings, logs, calculations and reports
- Create guides, template masters and tools to improve quality and efficiency
- Produce interpretive reports for Phase I/II assessments, quantitative risk assessments, ground gas assessments and geotechnical assessments
- Write bespoke and complex technical assessments and detailed remediation strategies
- Undertake remediation verification and reporting
- Manage earthworks and waste management, ensuring compliance with MMPs under the CL:AIRE DoWCoP
- Apply soil mechanics knowledge to calculate foundation bearing capacities and settlements
- Liaise and negotiate with regulators and stakeholders
- Assist with the development and updating of internal policies and procedures within ISO standards
Essential Requirements
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience
- Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related discipline
- Full UK driving licence (manual transmission)
- Excellent IT skills and proficiency with MS Office
- Strong problem‑solving and contingency‑planning skills, with ability to devise innovative solutions
- Professional, disciplined work ethic, capable of working independently or as part of a team
Desirable
- Postgraduate degree or Master’s in a relevant subject
- Chartered status
- Experience with AutoCAD, Holebase, Surfer, Geo5 or equivalent software
Salary and Benefits
- Salary of £40,000 – £45,000 dependent on experience, with twice‑yearly salary reviews
- Optional every second Friday off (2FF scheme) – ≈ 26 days off per year plus paid annual leave
- 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays, plus additional leave for service and promotions
