The Senior External Wall Consultant/Engineer will be responsible for leading and delivering complex external wall, façade, and cladding consultancy projects across sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare, and mixed-use developments. The role involves technical oversight, project delivery, mentoring junior staff, and supporting the continued growth of the External Wall discipline within CHPK. CHPK is committed to delivering robust, practical advice on external wall performance, compliance, and safety. The Senior External Wall Consultant/Engineer will play a key role in maintaining high standards of technical excellence, client service, and regulatory compliance, while helping clients navigate the increasingly complex façade and building safety landscape.
What you will do
- Develop external wall assessment reports, PAS 9980 appraisals, façade risk assessments, and technical reviews in accordance with current regulations, standards, and best practice.
- Lead or contribute to external wall investigations, including intrusive surveys, site inspections, materials assessment, and construction reviews.
- Provide façade and cladding input at all project stages: feasibility, design, construction, remediation, and occupation.
- Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, façade specialists, contractors, manufacturers, and approval authorities (e.g., Building Control, Fire and Rescue Services, BSR) to coordinate design, resolve technical issues, and ensure compliant solutions.
- Support business development activities, including preparation of fee proposals, project scopes, and participation in client meetings.
- Assist in maintaining and developing strong client relationships to support repeat business and promote CHPK's external wall consultancy capabilities.
- Provide expert technical guidance and peer review of external wall deliverables, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of external wall regulations, including Building Regulations, PAS 9980, BS 8414, BR 135, CWCT standards, and emerging industry developments.
- Mentor and support junior consultants and graduate engineers through day-to-day guidance and structured feedback.
- Support the professional development of team members through knowledge sharing and participation in CPD activities.
Who you are
We are seeking an experienced External Wall Consultant. Your role will support the Associate/Associate Director and Director whilst working closely with the wider team. Maintaining and developing client relationships is key to this role. You should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Façade Engineering, Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline. Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g., IFE, RICS, CIBSE, IStructE, SFE) is preferred. Extensive experience in a similar role is required.
