Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult
As an integral member of the Scale Enabling Technology (SET) team, this role will work across a range of cell and gene therapy focused projects providing research support for both process optimisation and analytical development. This role will provide access and training on the latest technologies used for bioprocess automation and experience in the use of a range of analytical techniques.

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform laboratory-based activities to contribute to the development of research-based manufacturing processes. Laboratory-based activities can include but are not limited to media, buffer and reagent preparation, stock management, culture of various cell types using a range of systems such as flasks, 2D and 3D bioreactors and downstream purification technologies, as well as performing routine assays such as flow cytometry, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, MADLS, mass photometry, LC-MS, cell-based viral transduction assays and other cell-based assays
  • Plan and carry out day-to-day laboratory tasks, supporting senior team members and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Support laboratory operations by operating under aseptic technique, ensuring adequate reagent supply and that equipment is safe, calibrated, and ready to use
  • Adhere to the company’s health and safety policies, be able to comply with quality management system procedures and electronic laboratory notebook (eLN) for data capture
Experience:
  • Demonstrable experience in virology, biochemistry, cell biology or other related life science discipline is essential.
  • Experience working within a research, process development or manufacturing environment supporting biologics, viral vectors, cell therapies or related products.
  • Experience with at least one of the following analytical techniques: flow cytometry, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, MADLS, LC-MS or cell-based assays
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting experimental data to support scientific decision making
  • Experience using scientific software packages for data analysis and visualisation (e.g. GraphPad Prism, FlowJo or equivalent)
  • Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation
  • Experience of mammalian cell culture, downstream purification or assay automation would be advantageous
  • Experience supporting laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration would be advantageous

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • Technical knowledge in bioprocessing, biologics, molecular biology, viral vectors, cell biology, analytical assays or assay development is required
  • Ability to perform laboratory experiments safely and accurately while following established procedures and quality requirements
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and present experimental data clearly and effectively.
  • Good written communication skills, including preparation of reports, protocols and technical documentation
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage laboratory consumables and stock
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and standard scientific software tools
  • Understanding of ATMP process development workflows would be advantageous
  • Demonstrates a collaborative and proactive approach, working effectively with colleagues across project teams and support functions
  • Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, adapting communication style to the audience

Education / Qualifications:
  • BSc within a Life Sciences discipline
