Due to increased project commitments and anticipated growth, we are seeking a full time Embedded SW & PCB Design Engineer to support ongoing development initiatives in our European operations. This position is part of a key project requirement and will be based in our Lisbon, Portugal office.
You will play a critical role in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the design, development, and validation of our ground station and terminal products for satellite communication applications across L-Band to Ka-Band. The role involves hands-on design, system integration, performance optimisation and verification to ensure project deliverables meet technical, quality and schedule targets. You will work closely with our Digital Engineer Team Leader, RF, Mechanical and Test engineering teams to deliver high-performance PCB designs and Embedded SW that meet customer and project requirements, supporting both prototype and production phases.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, validate and bring up embedded software and PCB designs for satellite communication products
- Collaborate with Digital, RF, Mechanical and Test engineering teams to ensure integration across hardware and software
- Contribute to design reviews, issue analysis and improvements for subsequent designs
- Prepare fabrication documentation and Manufacturer Data Packs
- Perform board bring-up, hardware validation and debugging using standard lab equipment
- Ensure designs meet technical, quality and schedule targets
- PCB Design
- Capture and analyse requirements for PCB development
- Create schematics, component libraries and PCB layouts for multilayer PCBs, using Altium
- Design high-speed interfaces (DDR3, 1Gb Ethernet), HDI stack-ups, and apply SI best practices
- Prepare fabrication documentation and Manufacturer Data Packs
- Perform board bring-up, initial hardware validation and debug using standard lab equipment
- Review designs, analyse issues, and drive improvements for subsequent designs
- Develop low-level drivers for microcontrollers and SoCs
- Build and customise embedded Linux systems (PetaLinux), including kernel, and U-Boot
- Implement embedded features and algorithms
- Develop test and automation scripts using Python
- Perform hardware/software integration, testing, and troubleshooting
- Work with protocols such as Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO
- Collaborate using Git (branching, merging, code reviews)
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- High level of autonomy in both hardware and software tasks
- Clear communication with cross-functional teams
- Ability to document and justify technical decisions
