General Summary
As part of the Operations Management team, the Machine Shop Manager is the first line of management accountable for safe and efficient operation of the machine shop, weld and fabrication areas. This includes people management, task allocation, performance and development, workflow oversight, visual‑management standards, and continuous improvement.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities (essential Functions)
- Drive a positive and safe working environment, ensuring housekeeping and visual management are maintained to highest standards across both the machine shop and weld/fabrication areas.
- Lead and manage startup and daily meetings, communicating key messages including SQCDIP, safety alerts, quality warnings, toolbox talks, and daily priorities.
- Maintain and communicate performance, using visual‑management boards for machine shop and weld/fabrication areas.
- Steer KPI results while upholding company values and leading by example.
- Implement a proactive 5‑S culture within each accountable area.
- Coach and develop cell team members and manage performance.
- Develop, maintain and enforce standard operating work procedures.
- Monitor actual vs. estimated operation times and drive improvements.
- Identify and implement operational improvements.
- Allocate productive work aligned with the schedule and business plan.
- Build key relationships with support functions (quality, engineering, inspection, planning, scheduling, supply chain) to resolve issues and production constraints.
- Provide technical support for machining, fabrication and weld operations.
- Control start, stop and break times and ensure adherence.
- Manage recovery hours to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Control overtime in line with production requirements.
- Work closely with material management to ensure efficient material flow.
- Drive booking discipline and enforce adherence.
- Lead quality to required standards and raise quality concerns promptly.
- Deliver regular communications to team members, peers and other functions.
- Operate safety Gemba walks and periodic audits as required by EHS and Quality.
- Raise NCRs and facilitate corrective actions.
- Other duties as deemed reasonable.

Education, Skills And Experience
- Proven track record of building effective teams with operational goal attainment.
- Strong focus on output delivery and bottom‑line results under pressure.
- Execution skills that drive improvement initiatives positively affecting customer experience and revenue.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, standards setting and assertiveness.
- Broad skills in managing machine shop and weld/fabrication areas (layout, safety, environment, quality, flow).
- Hands‑on experience as machinist or welder in a similar manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Celeros Union systems, materials, products and customers.
- Technical problem‑solving for critical production challenges.
- Prior supervisory/management experience in a related manufacturing industry.
Desirable Experience
- Certifications such as CWEng, European Welding Engineer, or equivalent formal qualifications.
- Experience with ASME and EN weld procedure qualifications, material specifications and welding processes.
- Engineering qualifications.
- Knowledge of ASME Section II, EN and RCC‑M materials and ASME IX QG 106 and CUP QA Program.
- Technical interfacing with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Material Management.
