Electrical Maintenance Technician at Celanese
Overview
Celanese is recruiting an Electrical Technician to join our Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) plant in Newport, South Wales. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a fast‑paced, varied manufacturing environment where we take pride in delivering flawless performance. You will provide business support at one of Europe’s premier Thermoplastic Vulcanizate plants, providing raw materials to the global automotive industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine functioning of equipment, working with stakeholders and other disciplines to complete repairs and breakdowns.
- Technical specification and ordering of electrical equipment.
- Involve in Root Cause Analysis to ensure plant equipment strategies are up to date.
- Ensure that all work is completed in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
- Work with external suppliers and obtain quotations for plant work, upgrades and refurbishment, managing contractor activity when necessary.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans and reports.
- Propose and implement changes to processes and systems, cost‑down initiatives, productivity improvements and quality enhancement advice and support on strategic capex plans.
- Work closely with other technicians, discipline leads and team members to ensure seamless communication and integration of electrical engineering with overall maintenance goals.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality benchmarks.
- Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance is advantageous.
Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering (HNC minimum) or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and experience using safety related systems (Permit to Work, Risk Assessments, Management of Change).
- Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good collaboration, communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience in PLCs – fault finding and programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens).
- Experience and knowledge of AC and DC electrical drives.
- Ability to perform a leadership role and coordinate day‑to‑day work of a small electrical team.
- Electrical compliance knowledge.
- Ability to deliver electrical training.
- Ability to manage and prioritize own work.
- Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings and P&ID’s.
- Liaise with vendors and site engineers.
