Mylar Specialty Films (UK) Ltd (Formerly Dupont Teijin Films (UK) Ltd) is a leading global producer of PET and PEN polyester films specialising in film products and related services for markets and industries including Battery Materials, Durable Cards, Electrical Insulation and Capacitors, Flexible Electronics, Healthcare, Imaging Media, Labels, Packaging, Photovoltaics and many more. Mylar Specialty Films is a 50/50 Joint Venture between Celanese Corporation and Teijin Limited. The business has approx. 2000 employees worldwide with manufacturing sites in Asia Pacific, America and Europe. The UK production site is based in Dumfries, Scotland, and the Global Research & Development Operation is based at Wilton on Teesside.

Responsibilities

  • The Line Engineer is accountable for PET film production on their assigned asset and plays a key role in monitoring, reporting, and improving production performance.
  • Working as part of a small Asset Team, the Line Engineer is tasked with the daily coordination of safe and efficient film production operations to meet the production plan.
  • The Line Engineer plays a key role in the coordination of raw material and critical consumable availability and in the coordination of corrective maintenance.
  • The Line Engineer is responsible for the planning of efficient product transitions and the development and issuing of cleaning schedules, grade change instructions and equipment start-up and shutdown checklists.
  • The Line Engineer is responsible for the troubleshooting of both short, medium and long-term process and product issues.
  • They support process and product development and therefore can be called upon to assist with production trials.
  • The role is based on days but requires some flexibility to respond to product or process issues that might arise outside of normal working hours.
  • This Line Engineer has no direct reports and responds to the Plant 5 Technical Manager.
  • The Line Engineer works as part of a small team, but also collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, Planning and Technical personnel daily.
  • Lead daily production meetings and coordination of activities between operations, maintenance, latex, recovery, and technical teams.
  • Liaise with Quality Assurance on quality issues and carry out investigations into issues.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities related to process, process equipment and product.
  • Manage silo and recycle logistics.
  • Plan and request hardware to meet the production plan.
  • Monitor hardware on-line and maintain records of usage and performance.
  • Work with trades to provide worklists for hardware changes.
  • Plan and request masterbatch material to meet the production plan.
  • Liaise with Latex Ops to advise of any issues or changes to plan.
  • Coordinate cleaning activities during production and shutdowns.
  • Plan polymer changes and provide changeover checklists.
  • Provide detailed shutdown and start-up plans.
  • Supply special cleaning plans for high quality grades.
  • Supply product information for critical grades to aid troubleshooting.
  • Prepare overnight instructions to keep teams updated on issues and plan.
  • Provide detailed weekend notes with review, forward plan and current status.
  • Monitoring and upkeep of process consumables.
  • Recording of production and breakdown information.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects.
  • Attend regular production meetings.
  • Provide trial cover when needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of focussing on safety in all aspects of work.
  • A degree in a related Engineering or Science discipline or relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Data analysis, planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to project manage and determination to accomplish goals.
  • Good leadership qualities with the ability to provide direction and motivate others.
  • The ability to use Microsoft applications including databases and spreadsheets, learn shop floor systems and other computer programmes used by the business.
  • Be flexible and available for out-of-hours work when this is necessary.
