With 700,000 tonnes of storage capacity supported by state-of-the-art processing technology, the business dispatches between 85,000 – 90,000 tonnes of raw materials to industry partners every week and delivers up to 600 lorry loads per day. Its products are used for animal feed and throughout the food and drink sector, supplying product to some of the largest food producers in sectors such as dairy, beef, lamb, poultry, pork, salmon, beer, bread, biscuits, breakfast cereals and pet food.

About the role: The Transport and Pricing Analyst will focus on optimising transport routes and pricing strategies to reduce costs while supporting hauliers’ efficiency. The role involves tracking price fluctuations, analysing market influencers, and advising the Haulage Manager on pricing opportunities and movements. The Analyst will ensure that the pricing matrix remains accurate and forward prices reflect inflation and market drivers. Additionally, this role will monitor actual versus planned costs, ensuring that teams deliver on the pricing strategy. The role also supports a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven insights.

Role & Responsibilities – key outputs:

  • Route Optimisation: Analyse and optimise transport routes in collaboration with hauliers to minimise costs and improve efficiency. Proactively discover information using networks to identify opportunities where hauliers have won or lost new routes, supporting backhauls where it benefits Cefetra’s operations.
  • Pricing Analysis: Monitor and track haulage pricing fluctuations. Analyse wider market trends and supply/demand drivers impacting haulage costs across the UK. Provide insights to the Haulage Manager on price movements and opportunities. Ensure the accuracy of the pricing matrix and project future prices in line with inflation and market drivers.
  • Collaboration with Traders and Execution Teams: Work closely with traders to ensure haulage exposures are well understood. Identify and discuss opportunities with traders to increase efficiency and reduce costs by understanding transport flows. Collaborate with the execution teams to meet customer requirements at collection and delivery points, ensuring agreements reflect operational needs.
  • Cost Monitoring and KPI Reporting: Track and compare actual executed costs against the planned pricing matrix to ensure cost strategies are achieved. Support a culture of continuous improvement by reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Haulage team. Produce month-end reports for the Haulage Manager, showing performance trends and tracking progress against strategic goals.
  • Operational Support: Assist the transport team by manning phones, especially during busy periods or holiday cover. Ensure business-as-usual (BAU) routes are offloaded to the execution teams to allow the haulage team to focus on strategic tasks.
