At Cedars Academy, we don't just view the lunchtime period as a break in the day; we see it as a vital opportunity to shape the social and emotional development of our pupils. We are a richly diverse community that honours those who came before us, and we believe we are all part of a bigger story encompassing family, culture, and our shared world.
As a Lunchtime Supervisor, you will not just be watching children eat and play—you will be an essential community builder, tasked with modelling our core values of Purpose, Respect, Independence, Determination, and Equality (PRIDE) in every interaction.
About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and compassionate Lunchtime Supervisor to join our team, ensuring the safety, welfare, and happiness of our pupils during the midday break. Your day-to-day responsibilities will bridge the dining hall and the playground, ensuring all children feel respected, supported, and inspired.
Key Responsibilities
- Meaningful Play & Engagement: Plan and lead age-appropriate, purposeful play activities. You will use a variety of play types, groupings, and resources to help pupils socialise, interact, and enjoy their break from learning.
- Dining Hall Harmony: Organise the smooth entry, queuing, and seating of pupils to maintain a calm and orderly atmosphere. You will assist children with their food, pour water, and actively encourage healthy eating and good table manners.
- Championing Inclusion & Support: Provide dedicated support to pupils with special educational needs, specific eating requirements, or allergies. You will actively challenge inequality and stereotyping, ensuring all pupils are treated fairly regardless of cultural or religious background.
- Vigilance & Wellbeing: Actively observe the playground and dining areas to identify vulnerable children who may be lonely, upset, or in need of support. You will use positive reward systems, employ de-escalation strategies, and carefully monitor behaviour and wellbeing.
- Health & Safety: Dynamically risk assess situations, manage transitions safely so no child is left unsupervised, and promptly report any medical, safeguarding, or behavioural concerns via school procedures. You will also assist with first aid administration and hygiene requirements.
About You
You will be someone who perfectly embodies our academy's values. You will show: Purpose by being highly vigilant, adaptable, building positive relationships with children of all needs and backgrounds. Respect by listening carefully and speaking kindly to our pupils, and you will champion Equality by helping to remove barriers so every child has what they need to succeed.
Robin Hood MAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, including those within our Central Team, to share this commitment and to maintain a vigilant and safe environment across all our academies.
