A prestigious Not-for-Profit organisation in London is seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Controller to join their team on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a key leadership role within Finance, offering the opportunity to shape financial processes and compliance in a purpose-driven environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead and develop a dedicated accounting services team, overseeing payroll, pensions, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, fixed assets, and financial systems. You'll ensure robust internal controls, regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting across several legal entities. This is a pivotal role contributing to the effective operation of the finance department and wider organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of 4 direct reports across finance
- Oversee preparation of statutory accounts, audit management and compliance reporting (SORP, VAT, Gift Aid)
- Maintain financial control environment, reviewing reconciliations and ensuring timely, accurate reporting
- Act as system administrator for finance and banking systems
- Prepare monthly management reports and quarterly KPI dashboards
- Support treasury and investment planning
- Attend Audit and Risk Committee meetings and contribute to financial governance
Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) with 5-10+ years' post-qualification experience
- Strong background in financial control, statutory reporting and compliance
- Experience managing finance operations within a charity or not-for-profit setting
- Excellent knowledge of SORP, VAT and Gift Aid
- Confident communicator with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
