The Commissioning / Service Engineer is responsible for startup and commissioning, service inspections, and resolving technical issues with air pollution abatement systems, including thermal oxidisers and gas‑fired combustion systems. This role ensures systems are installed, commissioned, and perform to customer requirements and industry standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Validate equipment installations and conduct start‑up and commissioning on all thermal and catalytic oxidisers and associated air pollution control technologies.
- Work closely with installation teams to investigate and resolve customer reports of technical problems and perform preventative maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers both verbally and in writing.
- Check new or modified equipment at customer sites to confirm full and safe functionality according to specifications.
- Analyze inspection findings, determine root causes, and recommend repair, replacement, or corrective actions.
- Install replacement parts as needed to ensure reliable operation.
- Understand wiring schematics and diagrams, making minor changes as necessary for safe operation.
- Work with PLCs (Allen Bradley and Siemens) to validate performance, troubleshoot operational issues, and modify code.
- Coordinate problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
- Hold Gas Safe accreditation.
- Provide on‑site and remote technical assistance for troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain performance reports, work orders, maintenance checklists, and time sheets.
- Develop and conduct training on safe operation of equipment for team members and customers.
- Travel frequently to customer sites; occasional overtime and on‑call emergency service may be required.
- Promote CECO to customers and end users.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Mechanical or electrical engineering background (preferred).
- Minimum five years of relevant experience.
- Experience with gas‑fired combustion equipment.
- Preferred experience in thermal abatement, related equipment, control systems, and field startup/commissioning.
- Track record of communicating and training plant associates on equipment operations and safety.
- Knowledge of thermal and catalytic oxidation solutions for VOCs, toxic fumes, and odours from chemical, hydrocarbon, and acid gas streams is preferred.
