Onsite Hardware Engineer, Southampton, 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
We are looking for an experienced Onsite Hardware Engineer to support critical IT infrastructure within a highly secure and operationally important environment in Southampton.
This hands-on role focuses on maintaining, diagnosing and repairing enterprise server hardware, primarily modern HP ProLiant platforms alongside Dell server infrastructure, helping to maintain system availability and performance.
As part of a wider technology refresh programme, you will also gain experience supporting legacy hardware during a planned transition period. The role suits someone who enjoys fault-finding, hardware repair and working directly with physical infrastructure rather than software or application support.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair faults on enterprise server hardware.
- Perform break-fix activities, component replacement and preventative maintenance.
- Support HP ProLiant and Dell server environments.
- Work across server rooms, machine rooms and technical facilities.
- Maintain hardware reliability and minimise downtime.
- Assist with hardware upgrades, installations and equipment replacement.
- Accurately document completed work and follow established procedures.
- Collaborate with customer teams and wider support engineers to maintain service continuity.
Required experience
- Proven experience in hardware engineering, server engineering or infrastructure support.
- Hands‑on support and repair of HP ProLiant servers, including Gen10, Gen10 Plus, Gen11 or similar.
- Experience with Dell PowerEdge server hardware.
- Strong fault diagnosis and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience replacing motherboards, CPUs, memory, RAID controllers, power supplies, storage devices and network interface cards.
- Comfortable working in business-critical or high-availability environments.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
