Contract: Full-time, temporary to permanent after 14 weeks
Are you an experienced Grinder looking for a long-term opportunity with regular daytime hours?
CDS Labour are recruiting a Precision / Cylindrical Grinder for an established specialist grinding business in Sheffield. You'll produce precision-engineered components, working from engineering drawings to achieve tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.
This hands-on role would suit someone who takes pride in accurate work and is confident setting and operating cylindrical grinding machinery.
Working hours Monday to Thursday: 7:30am–5:00pm
Friday: 7:30am–2:30pm
Your responsibilities Set and operate cylindrical grinding machines for one-off components and small to medium production batches.
Produce components such as shafts, pins, bushes, bearings and sleeves.
Read engineering drawings and work to specified dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes.
Select, dress and maintain grinding wheels, and set appropriate tooling and workholding equipment.
Adjust machine settings throughout production to maintain accuracy and quality.
Carry out first-off and ongoing inspections using micrometers, vernier callipers, bore gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
Record inspection results, maintain traceability and report quality issues.
Complete routine machine checks and basic maintenance.
Keep the workshop clean and organised, following all health and safety procedures.
What we're looking for At least two years' relevant grinding experience.
Proven experience setting and operating cylindrical grinding machines.
Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
A strong understanding of engineering tolerances, grinding processes and surface finishes.
Confidence using micrometers and other precision inspection equipment.
Excellent attention to detail and a consistent approach to quality.
