Handling one quarter of the UK’s seaborne trade and contributing £7.5 billion annually, we are proud and focused on the future. The cruise function continues to grow and we are looking for a dedicated Shift Technician to join the Southampton team. This is your chance to work in an innovative, fast-paced environment where your technical skills directly impact the smooth arrival and departure of the world's most impressive cruise vessels.

This is a dynamic, "boots-on-the-ground" position where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for the readiness and reliability of critical port assets. This is a mixed mechanical and electrical position with an electrical bias.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Weekly pre-work checks of assets
  • Departure and arrival operations of cruises calling in to Southampton
  • Prepare berths for cruise, including fenders, passenger boarding bridges, and gangways. Ensuring water supply and bridge installations
  • Terminal walk-through and checking of facilities
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Provide port-wide rapid response for asset breakdowns to keep Southampton Port running efficiently
  • Liaise with Terminal Liaison Officers and support the wider day maintenance teams as required

Requirements:
  • NVQ Level 3 (Apprenticeship) in a relevant discipline
  • A mix of electrical and mechanical experience (a preference for electrical bias). 17th or 18th Edition certification is essential
  • A valid UK driving license
  • The ability to work at heights comfortably
  • A passion for technical challenges and the ability to work reactively under pressure

To support our 24/7 operations, this role follows a 21-day rotation cycle. This includes weekends:

  • Early Shift: 04:30 – 13:30
  • Late Shift: 13:15 – 22:15
