About CDP

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s only independent environmental disclosure system. As the founder of environmental reporting, we believe in transparency and the power of data to drive change. Partnering with leaders in enterprise, capital, policy and science, we surface the information needed to enable Earth-positive decisions. We helped more than 24,800 companies and almost 1,000 cities, states and regions disclose their environmental impacts in 2024. Financial institutions with more than a quarter of the world’s institutional assets use CDP data to help inform investment and lending decisions. Our team is truly global, united by our shared desire to build a world where people, planet and profit are balanced.

About the Team

CDP’s Sales function is at the forefront of driving impact and growth – fueling adoption and use of CDP products that power sustainable decision making. We are responsible for unlocking new opportunities including acquiring new customers, renewing our existing book of business, and helping these existing customers seek even more value. Oriented to the market and our customers, the Sales function establishes go-to-market strategies that serve key customer types across financial corporates, non-financial corporates, and distributors and channels, tapping into their problems to deliver meaningful data-driven solutions. We work closely with our colleagues across Marketing and Communications, Customer Success and Product to deliver a smooth customer experience.

The Data and Channels Sales Team is responsible for business development and sales of environmental data sales in one of our most critical segments, and influential partners in the ecosystem including third-party distributors, trading venues, consultants, software and service providers and data vendors. This team identifies opportunities to benefit not only these partners, but the customers of these partners, to drive true system-wide change.

About this role

This role will develop new sales opportunities and business development with some of our most strategic and high-priority new customers, offering holistic solutions to some of the customers’ most pressing challenges. This role will particularly focus on data sales to critical channels such as consultants, vendors, software providers and stock exchanges, getting to the heart of the ecosystem’s data needs; it will be vital to understand not just the channel customers, but their customers. Bringing market-leading experience, commercial acumen, complex negotiation skills and an affinity with our mission, you will represent CDP with integrity and professionalism to be a trusted partner to our channel partners, and manage a team to do the same. This role is expected to be hybrid, coming to the office at least two days a week.

What you will do

  • Sales strategy development and execution: implement and execute sales strategies to achieve business development goals. This includes developing sales plans, setting targets, and monitoring performance against objectives.
  • Lead a nimble team of salespeople: shape team sales objectives, provide guidance at a strategic and day-to-day level to help them achieve their objectives, and champion their career development at CDP.
  • Manage client relationships: build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients. This involves understanding their needs, providing tailored solutions, and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Proposal development: prepare and present compelling business proposals and presentations to potential customers. This includes developing customized solutions that align with client needs and CDP’s value proposition.
  • Sales negotiations: this includes licence and contract negotiations, understanding core use cases of CDP data.
  • Market intelligence: stay informed about market trends, competitive landscape, and client feedback. Use this information to inform business development strategies and identify new opportunities.
  • Pipeline and forecasting discipline: maintain a disciplined approach to pipeline management and forecasting. Ensure that Dynamics 365 is kept up to date with accurate and timely input to support data-driven decision making.
  • Performance reporting: track and report on business development activities, including sales performance, pipeline status, and key metrics. Provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Event participation: represent CDP at relevant industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Continuous improvement: continuously seek opportunities to improve business development processes and strategies.

As a Team Manager, you manage an effective and engaged team, clear on its purpose and contribution, by:

  • Providing focus and direction, through regular 1:1s, setting clear objectives, providing ongoing, honest feedback, recognition, structured performance and development conversations, and helping with solutions.
  • Ensuring a respectful and inclusive workplace, where team members can communicate openly, share knowledge so it can be used, and respect difference. Helps resolve conflict as appropriate.
  • Living the CDP Values and demonstrating the behaviours appropriate to their position.

We're looking for

  • Experience: Senior and demonstrable experience in business development and sales within the sustainability sector and with direct experience of managing relationships with channels. Experience in EMEA essential, with experience in APAC desirable. Proven success and track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
  • Relationship building: Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and partners; and a strong existing network.
  • Communication skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Regulatory fluency in climate and related frameworks, regulations and standards.
  • A strong understanding of values-based sales, understanding of customers' internal teams responsible for purchase decisions, and the needs of the customers’ customers.
