Job Purpose and Background
In 2023, CDP underwent a complete digital transformation, transitioning the annual disclosure cycle from a paper-based, human-intensive, and vendor-dependent stack to a completely in-house developed, modernized, and scalable product that will revolutionize the customer experience for both external and internal users. As part of this transformation, we also built completely new teams across Design, Product, and Engineering.
The newly built platform consists of three unique domains:
- Disclosure: how CDP builds and programs questionnaires, and respondents provide their data.
- Scoring: how CDP scores and assesses respondents’ data.
- Data: how CDP can provide datasets and products to customers.
We are hiring a Lead Engineer for one of our two Disclosure squads, who will own the development of the team, deliver built in the Azure ecosystem, and be responsible for managing and growing a team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Build effective relationships with the Director of Engineering and across the Digital Directorate to enable the squad to deliver on their sprint commitments.
- Support the Product Owner with technical engineering inputs on backlog creation, feature/epic/story definition, prioritization, and estimation.
- Take full ownership of your engineering product and squad, delivering against agreed objectives and key results (OKRs), fostering collaboration and a good engineering culture.
- Define, implement, and oversee the end-to-end software development process using Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies.
- Write high-quality code using an object-oriented language (Frontend: React, Typescript; Backend: NodeJS, Typescript).
- Perform regular code reviews and ensure quality assurance processes to ensure code quality, maintainability, security, and adherence to company standards/industry best practices. Provide constructive feedback to the team to continually improve software development practices.
- Support architecture decisions in solution definition and design.
- Make decisions regarding technologies, frameworks, and design patterns to foster collaborative, efficient ways of working as well as high-quality product output.
- Work with CDO, Director of Engineering, and HR team to recruit, onboard, and manage talent.
You Will Have the Following Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge, interest, and passion for the environmental and/or sustainability space.
- Previous experience leading, assessing, and mentoring engineers.
- Hands-on skills in one or more object-oriented programming languages (Frontend: React, Typescript; Backend: NodeJS, Typescript).
- Experience building cloud-native solutions, preferably with Microsoft Azure.
- Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to advocate for clean-code best practices and influence adoption.
- Entrepreneurial and growth-oriented in their work style to bring new ideas to the wider team.
Salary and Benefits:
- Working for a leading people-centric environmental NGO with dedicated, passionate, and caring coworkers.
- Competitive NGO salary and 8% Company Pension Program.
- 30 days annual holidays (with purchased leave options).
- Flexible working hours (with option to take flex-days).
