The Role
As a Graduate / Junior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical building services systems across a variety of projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and directors, gaining hands-on experience across HVAC design, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, domestic water services, plantroom layouts, calculations, specifications and technical reports. You will be given structured support and mentoring, with the opportunity to develop your technical ability, software knowledge, client-facing skills and overall understanding of building services design.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design of mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation and domestic water services.
- Support senior engineers with calculations, design reports, specifications and drawings.
- Work on projects from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
- Liaise with internal MEP teams, architects, contractors and external consultants.
- Attend design team meetings and site visits where required.
- Produce and review technical information using relevant design software.
- Help ensure designs are energy-efficient, sustainable and compliant with current regulations.
- Develop knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.
- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, coordinated and commercially aware design solutions.
About You
The successful candidate will be motivated, technically curious and keen to build a long-term career in mechanical building services design. You may be a recent graduate, or already have some experience working within a building services consultancy, contractor or engineering environment.
Requirements
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Some understanding of mechanical building services design.
- Interest in HVAC, low-carbon design, energy efficiency and sustainable buildings.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail and a proactive approach.
- Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team.
- Any experience with AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp, Cymap or similar software would be beneficial.
- Previous UK building services consultancy experience would be advantageous but is not essential for graduate-level candidates.
