The Role
As a Graduate / Junior Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of electrical building services systems across a variety of projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and directors, gaining hands-on experience across lighting design, small power, LV distribution, containment, fire alarms, emergency lighting, security systems, data/ICT infrastructure, calculations, specifications and technical reports. You will receive structured support and mentoring, with the opportunity to develop your technical ability, software knowledge, client-facing skills and overall understanding of building services design.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design of electrical building services systems, including lighting, small power, LV distribution, containment, fire alarms, security, data and emergency lighting.
- Support senior engineers with calculations, design reports, specifications, schedules and drawings.
- Work on projects from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
- Liaise with internal MEP teams, architects, contractors and external consultants.
- Attend design team meetings and site visits where required.
- Produce and review technical information using relevant design software.
- Help ensure designs are energy-efficient, sustainable and compliant with current regulations.
- Develop knowledge of UK building regulations, BS 7671, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.
- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, coordinated and commercially aware design solutions.
About You
The successful candidate will be motivated, technically curious and keen to build a long-term career in electrical building services design. You may be a recent graduate, or already have some experience working within a building services consultancy, contractor or engineering environment.
Requirements
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Some understanding of electrical building services design.
- Interest in lighting design, power distribution, low-carbon buildings and sustainable design.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail and a proactive approach.
- Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team.
- Any experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, Relux, Amtech, ElectricalOM or similar software would be beneficial.
- Previous UK building services consultancy experience would be advantageous but is not essential for graduate-level candidates.
