The Role
As Estimator, you will play a key role in shaping the commercial success of new developments from the earliest stages. You will work closely with land, technical, and commercial teams to produce accurate cost plans, assess site viability, and support land bids. This is a hands‑on role where you will analyse drawings, challenge assumptions, and ensure cost certainty across all elements of the build.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and viability assessments for new housing developments
- Support land appraisals by identifying abnormal costs, infrastructure requirements, and site constraints
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and engineering information to produce accurate cost forecasts
- Work closely with land, technical, and construction teams to ensure estimates reflect buildability and programme requirements
- Assess ground conditions, remediation requirements, and civils/infrastructure costs
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Contribute to value engineering and cost‑saving initiatives
- Support the preparation of tender documentation and internal approvals
- Maintain up‑to‑date cost databases and benchmarking information
Essential Experience
- Background in residential development, housebuilding, or construction
- Experience as an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor with exposure to cost planning
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and housing development processes
- Ability to interpret drawings, engineering information, and technical reports
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
