Estimator / Senior Estimator (Construction)

A leading provider of bespoke low voltage electrical systems is looking for a Senior Estimator to join its growing team. This role is a key part of the commercial function, focused on preparing accurate and competitive project costings for a range of electrical infrastructure solutions. As a Senior Estimator, you\’ll be responsible for producing precise cost estimates for switchgear and related electrical projects, ensuring both competitiveness and profitability. Working closely with the sales function, this role requires deep technical knowledge and the ability to assess project scope, manage risk, and guide junior estimators. The position reports directly to senior commercial leadership and offers a strong platform for career development. Estimating: Create detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labour, and ancillary expenses related to electrical switchgear and infrastructure projects. * Analyse project documentation (specifications, drawings, and scope) to develop accurate and commercially sound proposals. * Coordinate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure smooth project transitions and alignment of commercial objectives. * Monitor and manage tender-phase budgets, ensuring alignment with internal financial parameters. * Mentor and review work produced by junior estimators, offering training and technical guidance to support their development. * Risk Management: Identify commercial and technical risks in tender opportunities and propose mitigation strategies. HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a similar technical field * At least 3 years of experience in an estimating role, preferably within the electrical or building services industry * Strong technical understanding of low voltage switchgear, electrical systems, and installation standards * Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), with the ability to interpret technical documents and engineering drawings * Demonstrated leadership qualities with experience guiding junior staff Relevant certifications in estimating, project management, or electrical engineering Competitive salary based on experience * Private healthcare and health cash plan * 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays * Company pension scheme * Funding for continued training and professional development *
