The Manufacturing Engineer for Assembly Operations is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production, high-quality output, and safety compliance in assembly operations. This role involves working closely with design engineers, production teams, and quality control to optimize the assembly line processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Design and Improvement: Develop and optimize assembly processes to enhance efficiency, safety and product quality. Design and implement assembly line layouts, workflows, and procedures. Conduct time and motion studies to identify areas for process improvement. Implement lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Production Support: Provide technical support to assembly operations. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment, processes, and materials. Ensure the assembly process meets safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Develop and maintain documentation such as risk assessments, work instructions, process flows and standard operating procedures.
- Equipment and Tooling: Specify and procure tools, fixtures, and equipment needed for assembly operations. Oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment. Develop preventative maintenance plans and coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control to ensure assembly processes meet product specifications and quality standards. Analyse data and implement corrective actions to address quality issues. Conduct root-cause analysis for defects and implement corrective actions.
- Project Management: Lead projects aimed at improving assembly operations. Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets. Coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. Monitor project progress and report on status and outcomes.
- Training and Development: Train production staff on new processes, equipment, and quality standards. Develop training materials and conduct regular training sessions. Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Required Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably in assembly operations.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with CAD software and manufacturing process simulation tools.
- Proficient in data analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- The role is primarily based in a manufacturing plant environment. May require occasional travel to supplier sites or other company locations.
