Main duties of the job

The successful candidate willprovide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care as part of amultidisciplinary team.

They will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care, ensuring patients receive safe, effective andcompassionate treatment throughout their hospital stay.

The role involvesadministering medications, monitoring patient progress, maintaining accurateclinical records and communicating effectively with patients, families andcolleagues.

The post holder will contribute to service improvement, supportjunior staff and students, and uphold the Trust's values, policies andstandards.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe and effectivenursing care to patients within the clinical area.

Working as part of amultidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will assess, plan, implementand evaluate individualised patient care, ensuring that care is delivered inaccordance with Trust policies, professional standards and evidence-basedpractice.

Responsibilities includemonitoring patients' conditions, administering medications and treatments, maintaining accurate clinical records, supporting patients and their families, and contributing to the promotion of health and wellbeing.

The post holder willbe expected to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and carers, escalate concerns appropriately, and participate in safeguarding, infectionprevention and control, risk management and clinical governance activities.

The role requires effectiveprioritisation and organisational skills, the ability to work independently andcollaboratively, and a commitment to continuous professional development.

Experience

• Experience of working within a healthcare setting.
• Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
• Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice.
• Experience within the relevant specialty/clinical area.
• Experience of supervising students, healthcare assistants or junior staff.
• Participation in quality improvement, audit or service development activities.
• Special Skills and Knowledge
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and clinical governance.
• Competent IT skills and experience using electronic patient record systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of local and national healthcare policies.
• Experience of quality improvement methodologies.
• Teaching, coaching and mentoring skills.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Educated to diploma/degree level in nursing or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant post-registration courses (e. g. IV therapy, acute care, safeguarding).
• Leadership or management training.
• Statutory Registration
• Registered Nurse (adult) on part 1 of the NMC register
• Valid UK NMC PIN.
• Compliance with NMC revalidation requirements.
• Additional specialist professional registrations or qualifications relevant to the role.
• Special Requirements
• Flexible approach to working hours, including shifts, weekends and bank holidays where required.
• Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of the role.
• Commitment to Trust values and professional standards.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (only where required for the role).
