This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor rolefor medical staff who wish to maintain and enhance their emergency medicineskills and experience. You will be part of a vibrant and dedicated EmergencyDepartment (ED) team, working on the shop floor.
You will be given the opportunity to develop an interest intrauma management and acute resuscitation.
There is an opportunity for the successful candidate toexplore a specialist interest relating to Emergency Medicine in their SPA time.Further information is available.
There is a degree of flexibility with working hours; furtherinformation is available from the department.
Main duties of the job
To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-daymanagement of the Emergency Department.
To have responsibility for and actively participate incontinuing professional development (CPD) utilising a minimum of 1 PAs a weekfor self-direct study.
The new appointees will be expected to join the middlegrade body in leading by example, managing the sickest patients, engaging withthe juniors to ensure safe and timely management and working with the nursingstaff to ensure adequate patient flow. They will not be left as the most seniordoctor in the ED.
For management purposes and use of resources the postholders will be accountable to the clinical lead and will ensure the effectiveand efficient use of resources allocated.
The appointee will be expected to provide cover whencolleagues are on annual and study/professional leave.
Research activities which are considered to bean inherent part of normal clinical duties will be encouraged and limitedresearch funding may be available following successful application to the localresearch and development.

Job responsibilities

Administrative duties the post holder will have continuingresponsibility at all times for the care of patients in their charge and forcontributing in the smooth running of the service.The post holder will also be expected toshare the administrative duties with the other colleagues including attendanceat Care Group and Departmental meetings, etc.
It is expected that the appointees will actively andregularly participate in Clinical Audit. Evaluation of the departmentsperformance against agreed measures will take place.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Emergency Department

To actively participate in both departmental and Trustmatters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
The appointee will be expected to be involved inimplementing the Trusts clinical governance programme. This includes activeparticipation in clinical audit, clinical guidelines/pathways, and professionaldevelopment, appraisal and risk management.

Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- Must have x2 of:
- ATLS/ETC, ALS, APLS/ EPALs
- Plus, working towards completion of all x3 areas of life support courses.
- MRCEM
- Additional courses relevant to EM eg level 1 US, HMIMMS, NLS
Statutory Registration
- Full Registration with the GMC
- Leave to work in UK Evidence of compliance with standards of Good Medical Practice
Experience
- Need to have relevant experience of Emergency Medicine experience and competencies either as a doctor in training (or similar experience) in the NHS or overseas.
- Evidence of annual appraisal
- Experience working in a UK Emergency Department
Special Skills & Knowledge
- Involvement in audit or quality improvement projects relevant to Emergency Medicine
- Evidence of research and publication in peer reviewed journals
Special Requirements
- Able to work flexibly with colleagues to provide services.
- Able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, motivating and influencing others.
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, management and other agencies.
- Experience of teaching students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Management or teaching qualifications relevant to Emergency Medicine.
