The predicted salary is between 25000 - 30000 £ per year.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic staff nurse to join our well-established team of nurses in our busy dermatology departments at University Hospital North Durham. You will be expected to work between all sites that we run Dermatology and Plastic clinics and biopsy lists.

Previous knowledge and experience of working with dermatology or plastic teams would be beneficial but not essential. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, have good communication skills and a flexible approach to working between sites.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Running your own nurse-led clinics (e.g., patch test, Demojets, hair disorder and Phototherapy).
  • Facilitating the smooth running of the clinics within the appointed time and performing phlebotomy.
  • Monitoring stocks and supplies and carrying out dermatological treatments.
  • Working within a theatre setting, scrubbing and assisting both dermatologists and plastic surgeons.
  • Supervising junior members of the team on a day-to-day basis.

Main duties of the job:

  • Working in an outpatient setting to provide the smooth running of clinics.
  • Taking charge of the department in the absence of a senior member of staff.
  • Providing nursing assistance and technical support within clinics.
  • Providing advice to patients within the department enabling optimum treatment.
  • Teaching new skills to patients to manage self-care.
  • Responding appropriately to distressed patients, relatives, and carers.
  • Demonstrating a working knowledge of the Trust Personnel and Health and Safety policies.
  • Managing distressed, abusive and/or complaining patients, relatives or carers.
  • Monitoring clinic appointment times and reporting regular deviations from the rules.
  • Liaising with supporting services to ensure complete investigation and/or treatment for the patient.
  • Participating in the development of research-based practice and multidisciplinary audit of practice.

It is essential you have good interpersonal and communication skills and can work using your own initiative. The post requires first level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Experience required includes:

  • Understanding of NHS policy and developments.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children.
  • Experience in an outpatient setting and theatre/scrub experience.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma in nursing.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Statutory Registration as a Registered General Nurse with the NMC.
