An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse at Darlington Memorial Hospital. The post will be based in the Cardiac Day Unit and will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop both knowledge and skills, caring for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional Cardiology procedures. The area is innovative and challenging and gives a great opportunity for you to join a highly skilled, dynamic and friendly multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job:

  • The Unit prides itself on delivering the highest standards of nursing care.
  • The successful candidate will assist Medical Staff in the lab with patients who are undergoing interventional and diagnostic procedures, e.g. Pacemaker insertion, Angiography, Dobutamine Stress Echo and also provide both pre and post procedure care.

Job responsibilities:

  • We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated nurse and whilst previous experience is desirable full training will be given.
  • A compassionate and caring nature alongside excellent communication, clinical leadership, sound decision making and organisational skills are essential for this position.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care.
  • To provide pre and post procedure care and to assist Medical Staff with Cardiology diagnostic day case procedures including, Angiography, Pacemaker Insertion, TOE and Dobutamine Stress Test.
  • To be involved in service development in collaboration with Department Manager/Charge Nurse and colleagues within the Multi Disciplinary Team.
  • To promote and engage in a nurse-led environment ensuring that care is delivered as per trust policies and procedures and in accordance with evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice.

Person Specification:

  • Experience: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Post registration experience desirable, but training will be given. Experience of clinical audit.
  • Qualifications: RGN Diploma/Degree. Excellent standards of nursing care.
  • Special Skills & Knowledge: Awareness of Health and Safety / Clinical Governance issues. Experience of using EPR on a regular basis. Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development. Experience in an interventional setting e.g. Cardiac Cath. Lab, X-Ray, Theatres/anaesthetics. Experience in Cardiology Clinical Skills IV cannulation, venepuncture, ECG.
  • Statutory Registration: UK RGN NMC registration. DBS clearance. Disclosure and Barring Service Check. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 a year Per Annum Pro Rata.
