Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, providing Estates and Facilities services across Trust sites. We are seeking a motivated and reliable Semi-Skilled Maintenance Assistant to join the Estates team at Darlington Memorial Hospital. This role supports skilled craft staff in maintaining critical hospital plant, equipment and services, helping to ensure a safe, compliant and well-maintained environment for patients, staff and visitors. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary Estates team with opportunities to develop practical skills within a healthcare setting.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will support Estates craft staff in delivering planned preventative and reactive maintenance across hospital buildings and services.
- The role involves carrying out semi-skilled maintenance tasks, assisting with inspections and testing, completing basic repairs, and undertaking labouring and cleaning duties as required.
- You will work independently on appropriate tasks, respond to maintenance requests via the electronic helpdesk system, accurately complete job records, and participate in shift and on-call rotas.
- Flexibility, good communication skills and a strong commitment to health and safety are essential, particularly when working in sensitive patient environments.

Job responsibilities
The Semi-Skilled Maintenance Assistant will assist and support Estates craft personnel in maintaining plant, equipment and associated services across Darlington Memorial Hospital and other SCL maintained properties. Duties include supporting planned preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, assisting with inspections and testing, and undertaking work of a semi-skilled nature without direct supervision when appropriate. The role requires active participation in the Estates shift and on-call rota systems, ensuring essential services are maintained outside of normal working hours. The post holder will use electronic devices to receive and complete work instructions, record time and materials used, and complete reports and test documentation when required. You will work in a variety of hospital environments, including plant rooms and occupied clinical areas, requiring discretion, professionalism and sensitivity. Occasional overtime may be required, including emergency response activities such as snow clearing and gritting. Compliance with health and safety legislation, Trust policies and SCL procedures is essential at all times.
