This role will co‑ordinate the delivery of a mouth care improvement programme across targeted ward areas within the Acute Trust sites.
Responsibilities
- Co‑ordinate delivery of the mouth care improvement programme within agreed timescales and milestones, ensuring objectives specific to the mouth care needs of inpatients are met.
- Undertake local audits on various patient‑focused themes and produce monthly NHSE KPI activity reports.
- Deliver face‑to‑face training, bedside coaching and staff education, and support policy implementation related to oral health.
- Collaborate with nursing teams, the multidisciplinary team and local staff to embed mouth‑care documentation into the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
- Produce case studies, patient stories and support collection of denture‑loss incident data.
- Participate in staff feedback sessions and focus groups, maintaining training attendance records and evaluation forms.
- Transport, store and secure mouth‑care supplies across sites, ensuring appropriate handling and inventory control.
- Represent the Trust in national campaigns such as Smile Month, Mouth Cancer Action Month and World Oral Health Day.
- Support the delivery of staff focus groups, nursing staff surveys and inpatient mouth‑care experience questionnaires.
- Conduct baseline data collection, audit completion and ongoing monitoring of service activity and development.
Main Duties
- Review and make recommendations regarding guidance and policies related to oral health improvement and mouth‑care.
- Influence attitudes of inpatients and staff, encouraging positive behaviour change and promoting good oral health as part of overall care.
- Record data using manual and IT systems for evaluation and monitoring of service activity and development.
- Work with ward teams to develop a local mouth‑care network.
About the Trust
We provide hospital services from two acute sites—Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham—and a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland. We also deliver care from community hospitals and over 80 other community‑based settings, including patients' homes. Experience
- General nursing care to patients in hospital, providing personal assistance, medical attention and emotional support.
- Documenting and recording information in written or electronic form.
- Experience with completion of audits and baseline data collection.
Qualifications
- Completing nursing care plans and clear documentation of ongoing patient condition and care.
- Excellent teamwork and people skills.
