This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established inpatient physiotherapy team at Darlington Memorial Hospital working as a part-time band 3 physiotherapy assistant on a temporary basis. This post offers individuals an introduction into the Physiotherapy Assistant role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic applicant to join our team. You will work alongside Physiotherapy staff and the wider MDT, and your development will be supported by senior staff working within these areas. Outstanding organisation and communication skills are required in order to support with the rehabilitation of patients. This is a great opportunity for individuals to gain more experience and knowledge of working within the Physiotherapy team.

Main duties of the job:

  • The successful applicant will work as part of the wider physiotherapy team to provide inpatient rehabilitation to clients in a range of settings within inpatients at DMH. The role has a 7-day working requirement.
  • The successful applicant will work independently and as part of the team to provide physiotherapy treatment to clients on the medical, surgical, frailty and orthopaedic wards, working alongside other physiotherapists and assistants.
  • They will also carry out administration tasks to support the service.
  • Supporting the inpatient physiotherapy team as an assistant will involve working with physiotherapists, other physiotherapy assistants and members of the MDT and independently carrying out treatment plans provided by the physiotherapist.
  • The patients will have a wide range of conditions and require a range of physiotherapy treatment including providing walking aids and carrying out mobility and strength rehabilitation with the aim of supporting patients to safely return home or support discharge flow into the community hospitals for further rehabilitation.

About us:

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities:

The trust has robust induction training and an essential training programme. The teams are very committed to providing an in-service training programme which the post holder will be encouraged to take an active part in to maintain their CPD.

Person Specification:

  • Special Requirements: Ability to meet physical demands of the post.
  • Qualifications: Maths and English GCSE/equivalent & NVQ Level 3 or working towards/equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • Experience: Experience of clinical supervision. Experience working in a hospital setting with an inpatient client group. Experience of working in a community setting. Experience of audit/research. Basic competency training in: mobility, assessment, progression of mobility, provision of walking aids, stair assessment, passive movement, passive stretches and individual exercise programmes.
  • Special Skills and Knowledge: Evidence of Team working. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good organisational skills. Ability to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner. Confident in the use of email and basic IT skills. Experience working as Physiotherapy Assistant or equivalent role in healthcare working at Band 2 or above. Knowledge of community therapy services accessible to patients.
