County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of around 600,000 people. This position offers a nominal base at the University Hospital of North Durham, with the post holder expected to cover community and hospital sites across County Durham and Darlington.
With a multidisciplinary team of 20 staff in the Trust-wide Audiology Department, we provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and rehabilitation service for adults and paediatrics, including ENT support, hearing therapy, tinnitus management, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, bone conduction hearing instruments, NHS diagnostic assessment, paediatric rehabilitation, adult direct referral clinics, community paediatric assessment clinics, and are an Any Qualified Provider for the direct access of hearing aids service. We have two permanent full‑time posts available, one at Darlington Memorial Hospital and one at the University Hospital of North Durham.
Job responsibilities:
- Fully competent in routine audiology assessment and rehabilitation for adults and paediatrics.
- Work with patients with complex needs, providing clear communication and interpersonal skills, training and supervising junior team members.
- Conduct diagnostic testing, support patients in understanding their hearing loss, set realistic expectations, and develop individual management plans.
- Select and fit appropriate hearing aids, reassess hearing and support ENT clinics.
- Provide direct access service across community sites and support outreach clinics for both adult and paediatric populations.
- Develop the Audiology service at County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
- Maintain an area of interest in paediatric testing, tinnitus, complex adult rehabilitation or bone conduction hearing implants.
Person specification / Qualifications:
- BSc in Audiology (or equivalent).
- Member of British Academy of Audiologists (BAA).
- Member of AHCS.
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including recent training events, meetings, presentations etc.
- Supervisory qualification or experience.
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle to travel to community venues and patient homes.
- Ability to calibrate audiometers off site (stage A).
- Clear speech.
- Teaching and basic IT skills.
- Good personnel handling and teaching skills.
