County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is excited to offer an opportunity for a Clinical Fellow to join our ED team at UHND. This post is ideal for doctors who have completed Foundation Training and are looking to develop their clinical skills, gain further experience in Emergency Medicine, or enhance their portfolio before entering specialty training.
You will be supported by an experienced and approachable team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, ACPs, nursing colleagues and wider multidisciplinary staff committed to delivering high‑quality patient care. An Educational Supervisor will support your personal and professional development throughout the post. You will also have opportunities to participate in quality improvement, teaching, simulation training, ultrasound and funded study including up to £1,500 towards relevant educational courses such as a PGCert in Medical Education.
We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate doctors who have completed Foundation Training, hold a current ALS certificate and are keen to develop their Emergency Medicine experience within a supportive and forward‑thinking department.
Job responsibilitiesAs a Clinical Fellow, you will play a key role in the assessment, investigation and management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries. You will work alongside experienced Consultants, Specialty Doctors, ACPs and multidisciplinary colleagues, developing your clinical decision‑making skills within a supportive and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will gain experience across all areas of the Emergency Department, including majors, resuscitation and ambulatory pathways, with opportunities to participate in quality improvement projects, audit, teaching and simulation‑based education.
You will be encouraged to contribute to department teaching programmes, support the learning of junior colleagues and medical students, and work collaboratively with specialty teams to ensure patients receive timely, safe and effective care. This post offers excellent opportunities to develop Emergency Medicine competencies, enhance your portfolio and gain valuable experience for future specialty training applications. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as BAME and disabled people are currently under‑represented.
Person Specification- Qualifications
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
- Completion of Foundation Training Programme (FY2) or equivalent.
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- ATLS, APLS, MIMMS, EPLS or other relevant Emergency Medicine qualifications.
- Postgraduate certificate or evidence of further study.
- Experience
- Previous experience of working (not observing) within a UK Emergency Department.
- Experience assessing and managing acutely unwell adult and/or paediatric patients.
- Membership of a relevant Royal College.
