This role will coordinate, lead and develop the nursing service within the Community Division of Dermatology and deliver care as an autonomous clinical expert within the field of Dermatology. The role comes at an exciting time ahead of the 10‑year plan aiming to move care closer to home in community settings.

Main duties of the job:

  • Work with Service Level Managers and Matrons to deliver a high‑quality and accessible Dermatology Service in community settings.
  • Deliver nurse‑led care, conduct dermatology clinics and exercise extensive knowledge of dermatological conditions as an autonomous clinical expert.
  • Act as a key part of clinical leadership within the service alongside GP colleagues.

Job responsibilities:

  • Own individual responsibilities and set/lead team objectives.
  • Lead or contribute to creating improvement, transformation and innovation of services.
  • Contribute to creating a work environment that is marked by pride, enthusiasm and collaboration.
  • Manage and/or contribute to financial performance and target delivery.
  • Lead by action and inspire others acting as a role model, demonstrating the leadership behaviours and values identified by the Dermatology service.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication systems across primary care services and the wider organisation.
  • Actively give and receive feedback in a constructive manner.

  • Actively contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of the population served.

As an employee of the Dermatology service, you will be responsible for ensuring that the vision is incorporated into:

  • The induction programme for all new appointees.
  • Staff development and appraisal scheme.
  • Templates for policies and procedures, content of meeting papers.
  • Terms of reference for all meetings.
  • Job adverts and recruitment/application packs.
  • Job descriptions and person specifications.

The post holder has lead responsibilities in delivering the following key result areas:

  • Lead on all aspects of the day‑to‑day organisation of the Community Dermatology and Minor Skin Surgery Service and nurse‑led clinics.
  • Provide nursing support for Community Dermatology Clinics.
  • Conduct nurse‑led clinics, working as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Advise on and promote healthy lifestyles and prevention of illness.
  • Order clinical equipment and medication.
  • Monitor the appropriate use of clinic suppliers, equipment and instruments within the Community Dermatology Services.
  • Bring any concerns to the attention of the Matron and ensure cost‑effective and efficient use of resources.

Person Specification:

  • Special Skills & Knowledge: Commitment to working collaboratively with others; Experience of working in Dermatology and Community setting; Systems knowledge (SystmOne).
  • Experience: Required to develop specialist skills in a broad range of dermatological conditions; Excellent organisational skills; Be responsible for undertaking audits and surveys with a view to informing service.
  • Qualifications: Registered General Nurse; Non‑Medical Prescribing Qualification or willing to work towards; Leadership skills; Evidence of recent learning and continuous professional development.
  • Special Requirements: Positive approach to change; Flexible to service needs; Own means of transport.
  • Statutory Registration: Registered Nurse (adult or child) on part 1 of the NMC register; Valid UK NMC PIN.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and, as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
