Childrens Physiotherapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our children's physiotherapy service on a 12-month contract (36 hours a week). This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a supportive paediatric team, developing skills in the assessment and treatment of children with a wide range of conditions.

The successful candidate will be based within our outpatient service, providing assessment, treatment and management for children aged 0–18 years. You will work with children presenting with a variety of developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and coordination difficulties, supporting them to achieve their functional goals and maximise independence.

This post would be well suited to a physiotherapist with an interest in paediatrics who is looking to build their experience within a rewarding and varied outpatient setting.

The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of children and young people, undertaking physiotherapy assessments, formulating treatment plans and delivering evidence-based interventions to support the achievement of individual goals. The role will involve working across outpatient clinics providing advice, education and support to children, families, carers and educational staff.

The postholder will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating treatment outcomes, adapting interventions as required and maintaining accurate clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards. They will work closely with colleagues across health, education and social care services to ensure a coordinated approach to care and effective communication between agencies.

The role also includes contributing to multidisciplinary assessments, participating in team meetings and supporting the delivery of therapy programmes within educational and community environments. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop specialist clinical knowledge and skills through regular supervision, training and reflective practice.

As part of a forward-thinking service, the post holder will contribute to service improvement initiatives, support the implementation of evidence-based practice and play an active role in maintaining high standards of care for children and young people accessing the service.

The postholder will be based primarily within the children's outpatient physiotherapy service, providing assessment, treatment and management for children and young people aged 0–18 years, with the majority of the caseload consisting of school-aged children and young people. The role will involve working with a wide range of musculoskeletal, developmental and movement-related conditions, delivering evidence-based interventions to support children in achieving their individual goals and maximising their functional independence.

The successful candidate will undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress and provide advice and education to children, families, carers and other professionals. They will be responsible for managing their own caseload, prioritising referrals and maintaining accurate clinical records in line with professional standards.

Although the post is primarily based within the outpatient service, there will be opportunities to gain experience within other areas of the children's physiotherapy, including community settings and special schools, depending on service need and the individual's learning and development interests.

The post holder will work closely with colleagues across the wider multidisciplinary team, contributing to a child-centred approach to care. They will participate in regular supervision, training and continuing professional development activities, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives to support the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services across CDDFT.

• Statutory Registration: Qualified Physiotherapist registered with H.C.P.C, Member of APCP
• Qualifications: Diploma of Physiotherapy or B.Sc. in Physiotherapy, Some experience e.g. MSK, paediatrics, learning disability. This could be a student placement
• Experience: Working experience of paediatrics, orthopaedics and Neurological Impairment. Provision of aids and equipment (Could be student experience), Experience of clinic working, Experience of working with children
• Special Skills & Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of people, Ability to write clinical reports, Working knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches in paediatrics, developmental and Neurological Impairment (working or as a student), Working knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches in paediatrics MSK and Orthopaedics, Ability to prioritise workload, Ability to work as a member of a Multi-agency team, Flexible approach to work, Awareness of Health and Safety Issues, Knowledge of childhood development

Special Requirements: Ability to travel independently across the County to fulfil the requirements of the post. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
