Staff Nurse OPD North in Bath

An opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse (AFC Band 5) to join the General Outpatient Department at the North of the Trust. This includes UHND, CLS, SBH and SCH. This role will include working in all clinics in the department.

To work as part of the immediate team, with the wider team and the ability to independently travel across all sites. To manage and facilitate the smooth running of clinics, demonstrating clinical competence in all areas of the outpatient setting and specialties.

• To treat patients according to their individual needs in a non-judgemental manner, ensuring that all patients' needs are met.
• To act as a chaperone and patient advocate as and when necessary following the Trust Protocols.
• To have the ability to work without direct supervision.
• To be an effective team leader with the ability and confidence to supervise junior members of staff.
• To act as a role model to both staff, students and service users alike whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• To be proactive, dynamic, enthusiastic and take charge of the department, in the absence of the department manager and confident with own decision making.
• To be supportive to colleagues and possess excellent communication skills.
• To undertake any training and development opportunities to become competent to cover all aspects of the outpatients clinics, specialised clinics and clinical procedures.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

• To provide nursing support within all clinics demonstrating clinical competence in all aspects of the outpatients setting.
• To be able to multi-task and competent in all specialties across all sites.
• To provide advice and support to patients attending clinics to enhance and enable patients to reach optimum health through knowledge, experience and health promotion.
• Depending upon experience, act as a mentor to supervise students, newly appointed staff and unqualified staff.
• To utilise knowledge and have the skills to deliver the best possible evidence based training.
• Able to work well under pressure and the confidence to challenge unwanted behaviours.
• To be able to respond accordingly to patients, relatives or carers who may be distressed following a clinic consultation.
• Possess the skills needed e.g. Team Leader Skills to deputise and supervise the nursing team in the absence of the department manager, referring to the department manager when necessary.
• To have knowledge of Long Term Health Conditions.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Trust's Health and Safety Policies.
• Able to respond appropriately by providing support to patients, relatives and carers who may be distressed both during and following clinic consultations.
• The ability to supervise the nursing team, referring and escalating to the department manager when necessary.

Current 1st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Special Skills & Knowledge: Safeguarding Level 2 and 3.

Registered General Nurse with current NMC PIN. Familiarity with trust IT systems. Teaching certificate.
