SCL/CDD Services are looking to recruit a skilled, hardworking, flexible, enthusiastic, customer focussed individual to join our Team. We are currently looking for an Assistant Clinical Engineer to join the Clinical Engineering team in providing effective & efficient medical device repair and maintenance services. The successful candidate will play an integral role within the team in ensuring that medical devices are effectively and safely maintained across the Trust.

Successful post holder will be able to demonstrate suitable experience in the specialism with a catalogue of manufacturer training and ability to apply their knowledge effectively as required for the role. Be able to work in a friendly, efficient manner with good communication and organisational skills to prioritise workload. A working understanding of ISO quality systems and the MIA process is desirable.

Main duties of the job:

  • Multitasking and prioritising own heavy workloads.
  • Organise servicing of medical equipment within area of special expertise.
  • Control and implementation of particular backlog maintenance projects/blocks of work to ensure efficient and effective completion often involving multi disciplined teams.
  • Authorised to generate orders including external repairs, spare parts and equipment accessories.
  • Carry out servicing, repair and calibration of equipment of a specialist nature.
  • Be able to understand and communicate technical information with colleagues and other Healthcare professionals.

SCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) set up to deliver a range of non-clinical services. The company is a separate legal body to CDDFT. SCL offers its own Terms and Conditions of employment which differ to the national NHS Terms and Conditions.

Job responsibilities:

  • Carry out calibration, maintenance, service and repair of complex, multi-faceted and specialist equipment.
  • Carry out Acceptance testing and commissioning of equipment and systems on behalf of the Trust in conjunction with relevant functional specialists to verify compliance to Department of Health Codes of Practice, British and Euro Standards and Statutory and mandatory legislation i.e. EAWR and Health & Safety Policy/Procedures.
  • Requisition spare parts and accessories to effect efficient and cost effective repairs of faulty equipment and thereby minimise equipment down time.
  • To accurately generate a Trust Asset numbers for new Medical & Surgical equipment ensuring all appropriate purchase details are completed.
  • To administer equipment onto the Planned Preventative Maintenance Scheme to ensure continuity of maintenance in line with the equipment status.
  • Be proactive in suggesting improvements to and work within the Quality System to provide continuity and compliance to EN ISO 9001:2015 for Clinical Engineering trust wide.
  • Control and implementation of particular backlog maintenance projects/blocks of work to ensure efficient and effective completion often involving multi-disciplined teams.
  • Assist in training nurses and other staff in aspects of equipment use.
  • Input into the maintenance of safe systems of work through audit, measurement and control.
  • Support the Central Equipment Loan Library equipment issues of a technical and decontamination nature.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • HNC in Engineering, preferably Electronics
  • Have, or be working towards, RCT registration
  • I.T Qualification

Experience:

  • Time served in Clinical Engineering

Special Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems including ISO 9001:2015
  • Knowledge of Computerised Systems for labour, stock & asset management.
  • Good organisational skills
  • Knowledge of NHSLA, Better Healthcare Standards
  • Analytical Skills
  • Adaptable to change

Statutory Registration:

  • Clinical Technologist registered member

Special Requirements:

  • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
  • Current UK driving license
