I’m currently partnering with a leading UK housebuilder to recruit an experienced Senior Buyer to join their Kent division. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing commercial team within a well-established and award-winning residential developer. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for materials procurement, cost control, and financial reporting across multiple live construction sites.
The Role
- Take ownership of materials procurement across designated sites
- Manage cost control and ensure strong commercial performance
- Consolidate purchases to achieve maximum economic benefit
- Negotiate agreements with suppliers and manufacturers
- Analyse quotations, prepare tender documentation, and place orders
- Prepare material cost budgets (CPC1) and provide cost advice to Surveyors
- Monitor delivery schedules in line with build programmes
- Resolve discrepancies between orders, goods received and invoices
- Attend site meetings at key project stages
- Monitor rebate agreements and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Build strong working relationships across commercial, construction and supply chain teams
This role requires someone commercially astute, highly organised, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
What My Client Is Looking For
- Proven experience in a purchasing role (construction sector preferred)
- Strong commercial awareness and cost management capability
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
- Working towards CIPS (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of construction regulations and materials
- Experience using COINS
