Overview

In this role you will shape the visual identity and moment-to-moment impact of EVE: Vanguard by delivering production-ready lighting and real-time effects for FPS levels. You collaborate across Art, Design, TA, Gameplay, and Rendering to ensure readable, optimized visuals on target hardware. You’ll define lighting strategies, mentor teammates, and influence visual direction to elevate player immersion in a modern shooter.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality lighting for FPS levels in Unreal Engine 5
  • Define lighting strategies to support navigation, focus, visibility, and combat readability
  • Work with Lumen, reflections, shadows, exposure, fog, post-processing, and colour grading
  • Optimize lighting for target hardware while maintaining visual quality
  • Profile and improve performance related to GPU cost, shadows, Lumen, translucency, post-processing, and volumetrics
  • Collaborate with level designers to support gameplay flow
  • Partner with Environment Art to elevate scene composition and lighting integration
  • Debug lighting issues such as artifacts, exposure problems, reflections, overdraw, and performance bottlenecks
  • Create reusable lighting setups, guidelines, and best practices
  • Lead reviews, playtests, polish passes, and performance passes, providing feedback
  • Mentor and support other artists and contribute to team growth
  • Act as a key stakeholder in cross-discipline discussions influencing visual direction and player experience

Key requirements

  • Senior-level experience as a Lighting Artist or similar role in game development
  • Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5
  • Good understanding of Lumen, real-time lighting, post-processing, reflections, shadows, fog, and exposure
  • Excellent artistic eye for mood, composition, colour, contrast, visual hierarchy, and player focus
  • Good technical understanding of real-time rendering and performance optimization
  • Ability to balance visual quality with gameplay readability and hardware limitations
  • Experience optimizing lighting for different hardware targets
  • Comfortable using profiling tools to identify and solve performance issues
  • Understanding of shader complexity, overdraw, particle budgets, translucency, shadow cost, and scalability
  • Experience working on FPS, action, or gameplay-focused environments is a strong plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across art, design, and engineering teams
  • Portfolio showing strong lighting, atmosphere, VFX, and technical problem-solving in Unreal Engine
