Help shape the future of bereavement support across London. Are you interested in using your financial skills to make a real difference in London? Camden City, Islington and Westminster Bereavement Service (CCIWBS) has been supporting people affected by bereavement and loss for over 50 years. Through NHS partnerships and direct services, we have provided counselling and support to people across North London, helping them navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
As demand for our services grows and following the Charity Commission’s approval to our ability to operate pan-London, we are seeking a new trustee with a finance background to join our Board and help guide the charity through its next phase of development.
Who we are looking for
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to an experienced finance professional who would like to use their work experience of strategic leadership, governance and financial stewardship, at Board level within a charitable London-focused organisation.
- Qualified in a professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or similar)
- Working in finance, accounting, audit, financial reporting, management accounting or business partnering
- Looking to broaden your experience beyond your day-to-day role
- Interested in charity governance and making a positive social impact
As a small charity, we are looking for people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and who bring sound financial thinking, good judgement, a willingness to contribute and to support the small staff team on finance matters. Whilst previous trustee experience is not required, it would be desirable.
The role
As a trustee with a finance focus, you will work alongside fellow trustees and the leadership team to help ensure the charity remains financially sustainable, well governed and able to meet the needs of the communities it serves.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Review and interpret management accounts and financial reports
- Support discussions on budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Contribute to the oversight of financial controls and financial risk
- Develop an understanding of charity governance and trustee responsibilities
- Help shape decisions about the future direction and sustainability of the organisation
- Support the small staff team on some operational matters.
Depending on your experience and interests, there may also be an opportunity over time to develop towards the role of Treasurer, providing additional leadership on financial matters within the Board.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to apply your professional skills in a meaningful way while gaining experience that can be difficult to obtain within a purely operational finance role.
You will:
- Gain exposure to Board-level decision-making
- Develop strategic financial leadership experience
- Build your understanding of governance, risk and assurance
- Work alongside experienced trustees and charity leaders
- Support a respected organisation that makes a tangible difference to people's lives
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
Time commitment
The commitment is approximately six Board meetings a year, typically held in person in the evening (at our current office in Kentish Town), together with reasonable preparation time; ad hoc participation in finance-related discussions with the staff team and/or Chair and Vice Chair.
Interested?
Please send a short email outlining your interest and relevant experience, together with a CV, to Chair of Trustees, Mark White by close of business on Friday 6 November 2026.
