We are seeking a highly motivated Incumbency Specialist to join our team and play a key role in supporting sitting Conservative MPs and elected representatives. This role is central to helping strengthen, develop and promote their incumbency through effective, digitally‑led campaigning.

Working closely with Members of Parliament and, when required, with other incumbent elected representatives such as Metropolitan Mayors and Police & Crime Commissioners you will help plan, develop and project‑manage campaigns designed to raise their profile positively within their constituencies or electoral areas. You will also contribute to identifying best practice and ensuring it is shared and implemented effectively.

This is a dynamic, hands‑on role that requires creativity, strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the Campaigning Department and wider organisation.

Role responsibilities

  • Understanding and articulating the incumbency challenges to incumbent MPs.
  • Advise incumbent MPs on a range of strategies to support them in their role dependent on Seat-specific factors and challenges – as well as the Party's strategic positioning.
  • Working with MPs to produce politically relevant community engagement campaigns.
  • To ensure good communication between internal stakeholders.
  • Production of the regular Incumbency and Opposition Watch bulletin and templates; sharing campaigning best-practice, when required, across the seats with which you are working.
  • Advising the incumbent MP and Party on campaigning and messaging opportunities provided by opposition campaigning and literature etc.
  • Support the Director of Field Campaigning with project managing the Department's reporting needs.
  • Elements of this role may incur candidate expense during a regulated period. Guidance on the costings of this will be provided but it is up to the role holder to seek Election Agents' authorisation before undertaking any tasks with election expense implications.

  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as required by the needs of the team and the Party.
  • Provide holiday cover for other members of the team in accordance with the holiday cover schedule.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Keep any professional qualifications up to date.

Professional experience and qualifications

  • Had a role in at least one General Election campaign; either as part of the CCHQ Campaigning Department or employed by a Conservative Party Association, Federation or Grouping.
  • Have a good understanding and experience of CCHQ structure, processes and dedicated campaigning methods, databases and digital procedures.
  • Have completed, successfully, all training units required of them whilst a CCHQ employee.
  • Experience of what a good digital campaign looks like.
  • A sound knowledge of current affairs and political awareness is essential.

  • The ability to build and maintain rapport with MPs, campaign teams and senior Party professionals under pressure and to short deadlines.
  • The ability to juggle and intermediate between competing priorities and direction.
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills with the ability to tailor message and style appropriately.
  • Creative, with a strong ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to problems and opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to organise and prioritise a demanding workload personally.
  • Ability to use a variety of digital tools.
  • A strong understanding of Parliament, its structure and its role of Parliamentarians and their role in establishing incumbency campaigning.
