About the role
The two Finance Officer roles provide a broad range of practical and technical accounting support across the Finance team. Each role has a defined initial area of focus: one responsible for income management activities, including Cashiers and accounts receivable; the other focuses on financial accounting and control, including revenue and capital accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting. You will be responsible for calculating, reconciling, investigating and resolving discrepancies within your area of responsibility, ensuring financial records are accurate and maintained in accordance with Council procedures and professional standards. You will work closely with colleagues across the Finance team and provide support on other accounting activities as required. As part of a collaborative team environment, you will have opportunities to develop your knowledge across a wider range of finance functions through cross‑training, enabling greater resilience, flexibility and professional development within the service.
About you
You will have experience of working within a finance environment and a good understanding of accounting principles and processes including reconciliations, financial controls and accurate processing of financial transactions. Experience in areas such as accounts receivable, income management, financial accounting, capital accounting, reconciliation or financial reporting would be advantages. Previous experience and an understanding of accounting concepts (debits, credits, balance sheet, revenue account, accruals, reconciliation processes, etc.) is essential for this post. The ability to analyse and interrogate accounts together with excellent numerical and analytical skills are also essential. You need to be a good communicator, IT literate with working knowledge of MSOffice, particularly Excel, and the ability to use other financial data systems for data enquiries and input.
