We have partnered with a leading special purpose machinery client who are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. Candidates should be based in the UK, Ireland, or Italy and fluent in English. You will lead the design of advanced automation and secondary packaging equipment (cartoners, case packers, tray loaders), taking projects from concept through to FAT/SAT while supporting and mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design of bespoke automated machinery from concept to completion
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs (SolidWorks or similar)
- Collaborate with Controls, Electrical, PM, and Production teams
- Lead design reviews and support supplier/manufacturing optimisation
- Ensure compliance with GMP, CE, and safety standards
- Conduct risk assessments and DFMEA
- Mentor junior engineers
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- 5+ years’ design experience, including 5+ in automation/special purpose machinery
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with high-speed mechanisms and packaging equipment
- Knowledge of pneumatics, servo systems, and machine safety standards
- Strong communication skills and willingness to travel (~10%)
Desirable
- Pharma/medical device automation experience
- FAT/SAT and validation knowledge
- Robotics/vision systems exposure
- FEA or simulation tools experience
