You will bridge research and practical software, building and evaluating ML solutions while collaborating with a highly technical engineering team. Expect work across domains like LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision and Reinforcement Learning, with opportunities to influence both early R&D and larger programmes. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to customer engagements and bids, shaping impactful AI/ML initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques
  • Adapt academic research to real-world problems
  • Design, develop and test AI/ML solutions
  • Build hands-on AI/ML software primarily in Python
  • Experiment with approaches and evaluate results
  • Contribute to early-stage R&D projects and large programmes
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support technical solution design, customer engagements and bids

Key requirements

  • Hands-on AI/ML engineering experience in R&D or applied research
  • Experience applying AI/ML techniques to complex problems
  • Ability to research, adapt and apply algorithms or academic research
  • Strong Python and software engineering skills
  • Experience working in agile engineering teams
  • Interest in experimenting with new technologies
  • Experience in one or more: LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision or Reinforcement Learning
  • Defence or National Security experience is advantageous but not essential
