Overview
In this role you will apply hands-on AI/ML expertise to tackle complex problems in defence and security contexts. You will bridge research and practical software, building and evaluating ML solutions while collaborating with a highly technical engineering team. Expect work across domains like LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision and Reinforcement Learning, with opportunities to influence both early R&D and larger programmes. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to customer engagements and bids, shaping impactful AI/ML initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Research and evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques
- Adapt academic research to real-world problems
- Design, develop and test AI/ML solutions
- Build hands-on AI/ML software primarily in Python
- Experiment with approaches and evaluate results
- Contribute to early-stage R&D projects and large programmes
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
- Support technical solution design, customer engagements and bids
Key requirements
- Hands-on AI/ML engineering experience in R&D or applied research
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to complex problems
- Ability to research, adapt and apply algorithms or academic research
- Strong Python and software engineering skills
- Experience working in agile engineering teams
- Interest in experimenting with new technologies
- Experience in one or more: LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision or Reinforcement Learning
- Defence or National Security experience is advantageous but not essential
