Principal FEA Engineer

We are recruiting for a highly specialised Principal FEA / Computational Mechanics Engineer to join an advanced engineering organisation developing sophisticated physics-based simulation software.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role for someone with deep expertise in FEA/FEM, computational mechanics and numerical methods, combined with strong scientific software development skills.
You will work on complex engineering problems involving nonlinear structural behaviour, advanced materials and Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), helping develop the underlying modelling and analysis capability rather than simply using existing commercial simulation tools.
The Role
You will:
Lead technical development across FEA and computational mechanics
Develop numerical models for complex structural behaviour
Work with nonlinear, anisotropic and advanced material models
Contribute to FSI and coupled multiphysics problems
Develop and improve numerical methods and algorithms
Translate theoretical research into robust C++ software
Improve simulation accuracy, robustness and performance
Work with complex 3D geometries and coordinate systems
Help maintain and modernise an established scientific codebase
Influence the longer-term technical and research roadmap
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
Deep knowledge of FEA/FEM and computational mechanics
Strong understanding of numerical methods
Experience developing FEA, CFD or scientific simulation software
Strong C++ programming skills
Knowledge of nonlinear structural mechanics and material behaviour
An understanding of CFD, FSI or multiphysics
Strong mathematical and problem-solving ability
A PhD in FEA, Computational Mechanics, CFD, Applied Mathematics or a related discipline would be highly relevant, although equivalent industrial experience will also be considered.
Experience with composites, anisotropic materials, thin structures, meshing, optimisation, Python/BASH or legacy C++ would be advantageous.

Remote working is available in the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Italy or the Netherlands.
