We're looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer with strong VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) expertise to join a high-profile defence programme delivering secure, mission-critical infrastructure. This role offers an excellent work-life balance, with 3 longer onsite days per week while being paid for a full 5-day week, making it ideal for contractors looking to maximise their time.
The Role
You'll play a key role in designing, building and supporting secure on-premise and hybrid platforms within highly secure environments. Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you'll lead technical delivery, support platform integration, and help shape modern software-defined infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and support secure VMware Cloud Foundation platforms
- Lead technical delivery across platform engineering work packages
- Produce and review technical designs and documentation
- Integrate, test and optimise platform components
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership
- Work closely with project teams and stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient solutions
- Drive automation and continuous improvement across the platform estate
Essential Skills
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) including: vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, Aria Suite
- VMware and Hyper-V virtualisation
- Windows and Linux administration
- Software Defined Datacentre (SDDC) design and operation
- NSX networking and micro-segmentation
- Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls)
- Automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible or Terraform
- Systems engineering across the full project lifecycle
- Cyber security principles within secure enterprise or defence environments
- Experience integrating compute, storage and networking into enterprise platforms
Desirable
- VMware VCP certification
- AWS or other cloud platform experience
- Infrastructure as Code
- Active Directory, PKI, PAM, SIEM integration
- VxRail / Hyper-Converged Infrastructure
- VCF lifecycle management (deployment, patching and upgrades)
- Kubernetes and Docker

Requirements
Active MOD Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance is essential. Ability to work onsite in Yeovil three days per week (extended days can be worked to condense the week).
