Are you an engineer looking to break into the medical sector without needing prior medical experience? We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established, third-party engineering company that is a UK leader in testing and calibrating primary care medical equipment. They support GP surgeries, community rehab facilities, care homes and hospitals by ensuring essential devices remain safe, accurate and compliant.

This is a 6-month fixed-term contract covering the South West region, ideal for someone looking to gain sector experience or take on a hands-on field-based role. Importantly, this is not a repair role. You'll be responsible for testing and calibrating low-risk medical devices, including:

  • Defibrillators
  • Thermometers
  • Medical weighing scales
  • Pulse oximeters
  • Other primary care diagnostic equipment

The Role

You'll travel to customer sites across the South West, carrying out scheduled testing and calibration work. This is a customer-facing position, so communication and professionalism are key.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week (typically 08:00 - 15:30 on-site) Minimal overtime (occasional Saturdays only if required) Some travel and overnight stays (hotel + expenses covered, plus allowance). You'll manage your own schedule, maintain strong client relationships, and support repeat annual bookings.

What We're Looking For

  • Engineering experience in the UK (1 year preferred)
  • Strong junior engineers (6+ months experience) considered
  • Comfortable in a field-based role with travel across the South West
  • Customer-facing experience (on-site or remote support)
  • Physically fit (role involves moving equipment, including test weights up to 150kg)

Above all, the business values reliable, motivated engineers with strong people skills and a willingness to learn.

Package

  • £29,000 salary (pro-rata for FTC)
  • Monthly goodwill bonus
  • Company van provided
  • 24 days holiday (pro-rata) + bank holidays
  • Expenses + staying away allowance

This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the medical engineering sector with a well-established organisation, particularly suited to those looking for a short-term contract with strong hands-on exposure.
