A truly unique opportunity to join a world leading Rocket Propulsion Technology organisation! We design, develop and manufacture solid propellant rocket motors for use in the Defence & Security industry. This vacancy is for a position within the Engineering Design team which performs modelling, simulation and analysis of Rocket Motor designs throughout the product lifecycle.
Specific areas of work will initially include internal ballistics which is used to predict, verify and analyse the performance of Rocket Motors. There is potential to expand into other areas of numerical simulation such as computational fluid dynamics, thermal and stress analysis of Rocket Motor propellant charges and structures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – Propulsion Engineer- Prediction of Rocket Motor performance using a variety of numerical modelling methods, varying from in-house tools to commercially available software.
- Concepting and Design of new Rocket Motor systems which will involve engagement with external stakeholders and potential customers.
- Analysis of the performance of Rocket Motor firing trials and assessment of these experimental results against performance requirements.
- Opportunities are available to work and lead on new research programmes investigating new advances in Rocket Motor technology and/or Modelling methodologies.
- The generation of, and contributions to, documents that support the qualification and delivery of Rocket Motors.
- Minimum of three years' experience working within a numerical modelling related field.
- Understanding of the basic principles of fluid dynamics and numerical simulation.
- Proficiency with either Python, Matlab or another programming language for generating scripts and analysing data.
- Experience using commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software such as ANSYS Fluent.
