We are seeking an experienced IT Asset Manager to take ownership of the full lifecycle management of IT assets, including hardware, software, and configuration items. This role is responsible for defining and embedding a robust IT Asset Management (ITAM) strategy, ensuring assets are managed efficiently, compliantly, and in line with organisational standards. The role reports into the Head of Service Management and includes responsibility for leading a small ITAM team.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Service Management to define and deliver a comprehensive IT Asset Management strategy and roadmap.
- Design, implement, and embed ITAM processes, practices, governance, and tooling across the organisation.
- Establish and maintain a complete and accurate inventory of all IT assets.
- Oversee hardware, software, and configuration lifecycle activities including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
- Ensure compliance with organisational standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Lead periodic asset audits to ensure accuracy, traceability, and vendor compliance.
- Define and operate IT asset management governance forums and reporting to drive accountability.
- Optimise asset usage and distribution to meet business needs while controlling cost and reducing waste.
- Collaborate with finance and business management teams on asset budgets, depreciation, forecasting, and cost optimisation.
- Deliver continuous improvement initiatives across IT asset management processes, tools, and systems.
- Work closely with digital, platform, and value stream teams to support asset-related initiatives and tooling deployment.
- Provide regular reporting on asset utilisation, cost trends, and compliance status.
- Manage IT asset vendors throughout the supplier lifecycle in partnership with supplier management teams.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a small team of IT Asset Management practitioners.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- 5+ years' experience in an IT Asset Management leadership or managerial role.
- Proven experience defining and embedding ITAM policies, processes, and governance.
- Strong knowledge of IT asset lifecycle management across hardware and software.
- Experience using IT asset management tools such as ServiceNow.
- Good understanding of IT architecture and core technology components (e.g. servers, networks).
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost optimisation, and depreciation.
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, and service level agreements.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading and developing small teams.
- Practical knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks, including ITIL v3 / v4.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience automating IT asset management processes or workflows.
- Experience operating within large, complex, or regulated environments.
- Relevant IT Asset Management certifications (e.g. CHAMP, CSAM, CITAM).
This role is based in Reading with hybrid working options available, subject to business requirements.
