We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Technical Lead to support a highly secure military programme. This role sits at the sharp end of defence IT, leading infrastructure design, implementation, and ongoing technical assurance across missionâcritical systems. You will be the technical authority for infrastructure decisions, working closely with military stakeholders, architects, and delivery teams to ensure systems are secure, resilient, interoperable, and fit for operational use.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Technical Lead for infrastructure within a secure military environment
- Lead the design, build, and assurance of onâpremise and restricted network infrastructure
- Provide handsâon expertise across server, platform, and core infrastructure services
- Own technical decisions and ensure alignment with defence security standards and policies
- Lead and mentor engineers, setting technical direction and best practice
- Work closely with architects and delivery leads to ensure interoperability between systems, networks, and platforms
- Support integration of legacy military systems with newer infrastructure solutions
- Ensure infrastructure is designed for resilience, availability, and operational continuity
- Engage confidently with senior military and MOD stakeholders
- Produce and review technical documentation suitable for secure and audited environments
Essential Experience
- Proven experience working on military or defence IT infrastructure projects
- Strong background in highly secure / classified environments
- Deep experience with server infrastructure (Windows Server essential; Linux desirable)
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Exchange (secure configurations, migrations, hybrid models where applicable)
- Demonstrable experience delivering interoperable infrastructure solutions across complex estates
- Experience working with restricted networks, airâgapped environments, or crossâdomain solutions
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security principles within defence or government frameworks
- Previous experience in a technical lead or senior infrastructure role

- Windows Server (design, hardening, lifecycle management)
- Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy
- Microsoft Exchange (onâprem / secure hybrid environments)
- Virtualisation platforms (VMware / HyperâV)
- Secure networking concepts and dependencies
- Backup, DR, and highâavailability design
- Infrastructure documentation and technical assurance
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with MOD, NATO, or allied defence environments
- Knowledge of defence security standards and accreditation processes
- Experience integrating legacy systems in operational environments
- Exposure to secure platform modernisation or transformation programmes
