We're recruiting on behalf of an established technology business that develops sophisticated hardware products for customers operating in highly regulated and security-focused sectors. As the Electronic Systems Manager, you'll take ownership of the overall technical direction of complex hardware platforms, ensuring multiple engineering disciplines work together to deliver reliable, high-quality products. This is a leadership role with a strong technical focus, ideal for someone who enjoys solving engineering challenges while developing and supporting a high-performing team.

The Opportunity

You'll be responsible for the technical leadership of electronic systems throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring solutions are robust, manufacturable and meet demanding performance and compliance requirements. Working closely with Electronics, Firmware, Mechanical, Product Management and Manufacturing teams, you'll coordinate the successful delivery of complex hardware platforms from concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the overall architecture for complex electronic hardware systems.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful integration across hardware, embedded software and mechanical design.
  • Provide technical guidance on electronic system design, including digital electronics, mixed-signal circuits, power architecture and EMC considerations.
  • Oversee system integration, prototype evaluation, design verification and product validation activities.
  • Ensure products are designed to satisfy relevant regulatory, safety and quality standards before release to manufacture.
  • Identify technical risks early and drive appropriate mitigation plans throughout development.
  • Chair technical reviews, manage engineering documentation and maintain configuration control.
  • Support manufacturing, production test and customer support teams in resolving technical issues.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve product performance, quality, manufacturability and cost.

About You

You'll be an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in electronics and systems development, comfortable managing both technical decisions and engineering teams. We're particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Experience leading electronics or systems engineering teams delivering complex hardware products.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles and electronic product development.
  • A broad understanding of digital electronics, mixed-signal design, power systems and hardware integration.
  • Experience delivering products that meet EMC, safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools such as Altium and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • The ability to make sound technical decisions, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability and commercial considerations.
  • Knowledge of secure hardware design methodologies and hardware security principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Experience

The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential:

  • Safety standards such as IEC/EN.
  • Development of environmentally demanding electronic systems.
  • FPGA or SoC-based hardware platforms.
  • Python scripting for engineering automation or hardware testing.
  • Exposure to security assurance standards or high-integrity product development environments.

What's on Offer

A senior technical leadership position with genuine influence over product development. The opportunity to work on innovative electronic technologies within a cooperative engineering environment. Hybrid working arrangements. Ongoing professional development and career progression.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical leadership with hands-on engineering expertise, we'd welcome the opportunity to discuss this position with you in confidence.
