I am looking for an Engineering Lead for a client who is a leading IT Systems Integrator operating within the UK defence sector. You will be part of their customers' Design Authority, taking responsibility for all aspects of engineering process, governance, technology, and strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Define engineering processes, standards, and guidance covering the end-to-end life cycle of a variety of components (software, infrastructure, service management etc.), enabling the repeatable delivery of governed and assured products.
- Enable engineering governance, working across multiple suppliers to ensure quality artefacts are produced to standards consistently.
- Define engineering and automation tooling requirements and architecture, and support teams in the delivery of this technology and the supporting processes.
- Ensure the engineering function is delivering value to the customer's business, achieving their strategic goals through delivery of engineering concepts, guidance, and artefacts.
- Manage the Engineering Community of Practice, leading a team of engineering-focused people to deliver the wider engineering function.
Skills required:
- Proven experience working within Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or similar), with the ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams, participate in sprint planning and retrospectives, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and culture, including automation, collaboration between development and operations teams, and continuous improvement. Experience implementing or supporting Infrastructure as Code (IaC), monitoring, and deployment automation.
- CI/CD (Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment): Hands-on experience designing, maintaining, or optimizing CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient, reliable, and repeatable software builds, testing, and releases. Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Bamboo, or GitHub Actions.
